If you’re a fan of Dungeons & Dragons actual plays, you may have heard of the long running series The Legends of Avantris. In 2023, the team behind Avantris launched a succesful Kickstarter for their first official D&D 5e supplement. Entitled The Crooked Moon, it raised a whopping $4 million from backers, with the book introducing a new folk horror setting, along with new character options, monsters, magic items and a complete campaign.
Now, The Crooked Moon is coming to D&D Beyond, marking yet another major third-party publication to land on Wizards of the Coast’s digital platform. It’s actually been parsed into three separate books: one for players, one for Dungeon Masters and a bundle that contains both books. They’ll be released on June 17th, 2025 but you can pre-order them now directly on D&D Beyond
So just what new horrors lurk in the shadow of the Crooked Moon? Below, we take a look all the details.

What Crooked Moon books on D&D Beyond?
The original Crooked Moon supplement is a single physical book that is currently available for pre-order on Backerkit (users who supported in Kickstarter have already received their copies).
The D&D Beyond version, however, has taken the book and broken it out into three separate products. It’s important to note that all use the DnD 2014 rules (although with a little work you can easily port them over to the new DnD 2024 mechanics).

The Crooked Moon Part One: Player Options & Campaign Setting
This book is really designed to introduce the setting of Druskenvald, a mysterious realm trapped between dusk and the witching hour that’s steeped in the creatures and magic of folk horror, with a touch of Halloween, pagan festivals and dark fantasy thrown in for good measure. It includes the following:
- Lore and background information on Druskenvald
- 15 Subclasses
- 13 Species
- 13 Familiar companions
- 26 Magic Items
- 40 Spells
- 14 Feats
- 13 Potions

The Crooked Moon Part Two: Monsters & Adventure Campaign
This book is really designed for Dungeon Masters and includes the following:
- A campaign for Levels 1–13
- Additional content to reach level 20
- New Fateweaving rules mechanics
- 11 Boss battles
- 85 Monsters
- 158 Curses

The Crooked Moon Full Bundle
This book includes everything that comes in both Part One and Part Two and is essentially a D&D Beyond version of The Crooked Moon physical book and PDF that’s being offered by Avantris Entertainment (although the materials has been slightly modified for Wizards of the Coast).
Notably, all of the content integrates with D&D Beyond, including the Maps VTT and the character builder.

How much are The Crooked Moon books on D&D Beyond
The pricing for the three books is as follows:
- The Crooked Moon Part One: $39.99 USD
- The Crooked Moon Part Two: $39.99 USD
- The Crooked Moon Full Bundle: $69.99 USD
Notably if you pre-order any of the books you’ll also unlock 4 exclusive frames and 10 backdrops for your character sheet.

Final Thoughts
The Legends of Avantris is an incredibly influential actual play series, so it’s great to see their campaign materials reaching an even wider audience via D&D Beyond. The horror folk vibes will likely appeal to fans of Ravenloft and dark fantasy, and the art style and vibes are definitely uniquely. More importantly, it marks yet another chapter in Wizards of the Coast pushing more third-party content.
The books will be released on June 17th, 2025 but you can pre-order them now directly on D&D Beyond
